the little book of clouds
the cloud drawings below were a small project which ran from late 2013 - 2014. it was escapism. i wanted to create imaginary places where there were no or few people because people are mostly what i want to escape. creating these pictures took me elsewhere, to a visual and emotional place of calmness and profoundity.
profound because from an early age weather has been a spiritual thing. i remember learning cloud classifications as a small child at school, i liking their strange names and the ways their formations meant different things about the weather... cirrus... nimbo stratus... cumulus...
in the work objects are reduced to borderline abstractions which i try to arrange in simple but strong compositions. the series is in black and white to emphasise abstract form. they were drawn in ink and shaded digitally
in the end there were 45 drawings which became 'the little book of clouds'
